Our Wonder by Lurepa Journal has been designed for kids that are reading and writing.
We created our journals because we couldn’t find one that was 100% to our liking and honestly most of them out there felt like they were too much.
When undergoing intense life changes, journaling can help in reducing mental stress and anxiety, improve your mood and aid in tracking important signs and symptoms that can easily be forgotten. Journaling however is a learned skill.
Unfortunately, children also have intrusive thoughts. If your child has been affected by medical trauma or trauma for that matter they are going to be forced into understanding emotional intelligence at a different level than most of the children their age often making them a bit older than they really are. First, we need to understand this and secondly, as parents and caregivers, it is our job to set an example and help them learn how to be smart about emotions - our own and how others around us can affect each of us differently. It is also incredibly important to help them understand how some thoughts need to be stopped so they don’t learn how to ruminate.
Some technology has replaced the use of a traditional pen and paper for journaling which we feel is unfortunate. Why? It's simple. The neurological magic that can be created when you are forced to slow down, write out and emotionally remove what can get trapped in your body is essential. It can help you prioritize problems, remove fears and process concerns.
We have always enjoyed neuroscience, even before our family’s medical journey, and know that the human brain is an incredible pattern-making machine and it is known to be the most complicated object in the known universe. We should help it, and our kids, by journaling to create good patterns and help ourselves better understand that we, as in ourselves, are our own biggest journey.
